Here are some selected highlights of  how I've spent my time. I have left out the really dull bits and  stuff that's too embarrassing to tell strangers.

2012

Constructing and fitting a 3m x 2.5m display cabinet for a costume lent by the V&A to an exhibition at Pallant House Gallery Chichester.
Assistant to Pamela Howard on an opera production
Commission for two display cabinets Northbrook College.
 
2011
Two days a week as a classroom assistant in the Design Technology department of a large secondary school for a whole term.
 

2007-2010
Various jobs and commissions, including shop-fitting a new bistro and some bespoke furniture. I made a flat-pack photo-booth for a travelling exhibition by the Wellcome Trust. I also made a variety of display stands and re-worked some existing exhibits to work as part of a travelling display.

2005-2007
A bout of ill health brought everything to a grinding halt.
 
1997-2005
Wildcat Collection, purveyors of all manner of body adornments. I began a six-week con-tract to refit their main front office and stayed for seven years. During my time there I refitted all their offices (some several times) and both shops. I constructed and maintained all the trade show equipment and display stands that travelled to conventions all over Europe. I also made some prototype products as test pieces before passing them on to manufacturers for full production runs. I also commissioned manufacturers to make specialised fittings and equipment.
 
1995-1997
Upon my return to England I continued to work as a jobbing carpenter.
 
1994-1995
Sound engineer for a live music venue
Rigging sound systems for an events company
Architectural model making
Drawing up architectural plans for a commercial kitchen development in support of planning permission
Overseeing the buying of kitchen equipment and the building and fitting out of the same kitchen.
Designing advertising posters and flyers for various events.
Freelance journalism on a national newspaper.
 

1993-1994
Boat-building and refitting for Simpson Marine in Aberdeen (HK) harbour. I worked on large GRP pleasure boats, all-wooden schooners, Junks and general ocean-going craft.

1992-1993
I travelled extensively in South East Asia before landing in Hong-Kong to find work.
 
1986 -1992
Having qualified as a carpenter I started working as a self-employed sub-contractor
On a large variety of wood based jobs. These were mainly in house building and conversions
 
1984-1985
Antiquarian bookseller, for Adam Ball Antiquarian books, specialising in modern firsts, Victorian prints and Plate books.
 
1982 - 1984
Production line gift maker, at A.H Prismatics, producing all manner of shiny gifts and trinkets
